Drama Mamas: How to find gaming buddies

Drama Mamas Lisa Poisso and Robin Torres are experienced gamers and real-life mamas -- and just as we don't want our precious babies to be the ones kicking and wailing on the floor of the checkout lane next to the candy, neither do we want you to become known as That Guy on your realm.

We've talked before about how to leave your guild, but what happens after that?

Hey Drama Mamas!

Today i write to you lovely ladies with a problem that I have been wrestling with for almost 4 years: finding someone to play World of Warcraft with. Here is the high and low of it, or rather the long and short:

Four or so years ago my brother starts playing a game that I considered to be a money sand trap: World of Warcraft, I cannot honestly say I was friendly to the franchise as at the time I was Neverwinter Night's personal slave (still am sometimes) but to make a long story short (too late) I was persuaded to take a vacation to Azeroth and I have never left. I fell in love with the planet and its people and while my hearth stone will always be set to Neverwinter, I am really enjoying my time in Azeroth.

But here is my dilemma; I'm lonely. Not long after I started playing my brother quit, after that I soloed until I convinced my two best friends to play (who were a couple, mistake number one) but when they broke up they started getting on at different times and then more and more infrequently and now not at all, then (having run out of RL friends who play) I spent the next year jumping from guild to guild, trying to find the right family. Eventually I found one, in my eyes the perfect guild; we raided, we did group quests, leveled alts together, helped each other with achievements, and protected each other from gankers (this was on my old pvp server), we even held in game parties with contests and prizes and guild meet ups twice a year but we were a progression guild and after 2 years of running together we hit a rock, all progression stopped and people got frustrated, and then it didn't take long for the frustration to turn into arguments and then the five words you never want to see when logging in, "your guild has been disbanded"

These days I just play by myself, I have joined a new guild but it doesn't have the same atmosphere as my old one and I find that I am just keeping to myself when I log in and because we are so big (we had to split in two) often requests for this or that quest/group go unnoticed or unanswered. Of all the RL friends who I used to play with only one still plays but she lives in a different country and with the time difference and my work schedule, play time is sparse. I have a boyfriend who I would love to get playing but he doesn't express any desire to play (and if he thinks that makes me sad/offended every time i ask and he refuses he buys me play time and in game pets ^_^)

So now I ask, any advice? Do I look for the "right" guild? Do i put an ad on the forums "help wanted, friendly players who like playing and doing anything and everything in game and not take anything seriously and have fun?" or maybe a real life ad? I don't know, I'm not very social I just like being with other people.

Sincerely with the greatest respect and appreciation,

LFG

Drama Mama RobinDrama Mama Robin: LFG, your situation is quite common in the physical world as well. If someone wants to play darts, pool, softball or whatever competitively and no friends want to join, how does one find people to do this with?

Let's say I want to shoot pool competitively again but have been out of the league for some time and have moved. What can I do?

  • Contact my old team members and ask if they know of anyone or any place near me that they can recommend.
  • Hang around in bars with pool tables and try to make friends while playing with strangers.
  • Go to tournaments, socialize, and see if I hit it off with any one team.
  • List myself officially as looking for a team in the area.
  • Enter myself into solo events and see if anyone approaches me. (This idea is the scariest for me.)
  • Look online for local leagues that may be looking for members and take the plunge blindly.
  • Ask another group I belong to (knitting, parents at my child's school, the local YMCA) if they play or can recommend people for me to play with.
I'm sure there are other ways to connect, too, but the point is that there are methods both in game and out to join a team of like-minded people that you actually enjoy. To translate into WoW terminology, you could:
  • Contact any of the members of the guild you really liked to see if they have calmed down, are still enjoying the game, and belong to a guild you might like.
  • Hang around in bars. OK, that won't really help here, but it's fun.
  • Join any local server events or raids and see if you hit it off with anyone participating people who can recommend their guild.
  • Scan the forums looking for guilds that want new members and seem to have a similar mindset.
  • Ask another group you belong to in the physical world if any of them play WoW. You may be surprised that the acquaintance you have at the gym also plays or someone in your book club is hiding a secret World of Warcraft habit.
  • Look at online forums for your other interests and see if there is anyone who hangs out in Azeroth too.
  • You could use the Guild Finder tool, but ... well ... that's not really that helpful, unfortunately.
I can't recommend listing yourself as looking for a guild on the forums because you're just going to get trolls, unfortunately. Nobody wants that. I think that your best bets are numbers 1, 4 and 6.

I know there are many others like you who want the same things, LFG. Good luck in finding each other.

Drama Mama LisaDrama Mama Lisa: Drama Mama Lisa is random today. Maybe not as random as Drama Mama "Go to a Bar" Robin ... but random enough.

Randomly:

  • Try something entirely new. Like ... ever roleplayed? Go check out the scene. (I don't recommend showing up at a random location on a random RP realm; I do recommend poking through RP realm forums first.) Not your cup of tea? Our 15 Minutes of Fame column is packed with players who take all sorts of unusual angles to the game -- you could find something that sparks an interest.
  • Stop pestering your boyfriend about playing. Love him for who he is, rather than pushing him away over what he's not.
  • Sort out what you actually want. You say you're "not very social and just like being with other people," yet you're unhappy that your new guild feels relatively unresponsive and you find yourself keeping to yourself. Frankly, if you're not very social and just like being around others, this guild sounds like a pretty good match -- so perhaps you should pause to reevaluate what it is that you're really after.
  • Hint: It sounds like you're still looking for a gaming buddy.
  • If it's people you want, make an alt and try Spectacular Death or It came from the Blog. These two guilds (the former, long-time friends of WoW Insider; the latter, actual WoW Insider readers) have become my default solution for players in search of a laid-back place to have fun with maturity, stability and no drama.
Keep at it, and there will almost assuredly be fun and gaming buddies in your future!

Dodge the drama and become that player everyone wants in their group with a little help and insight from the Drama Mamas. Play nice ... and when in doubt, ask the Drama Mamas at robin@wowinsider.com. Read Robin's section of this post on how to get your letter answered and please remember that we cannot answer privately.

Democrats spend big in Ore. special election (AP)

PORTLAND, Ore. ? Determined not to lose another friendly district because of a sex scandal, Democrats and their allies have pumped more than $1 million into an Oregon special election race that has turned into a vicious exchange of attacks over the airwaves.

Voters are deciding who should replace former Rep. David Wu, a seven-term Democrat who resigned last year following a string of bizarre news stories that began with photos of the congressman wearing a tiger costume and ended with a young woman's accusation that he made an unwanted sexual advance.

Voters have until 8 p.m. Tuesday to return their ballots in the all-mail election.

Republican Rob Cornilles, a sports business consultant, has tried hard to extend the scandal that brought down Wu to the Democrat who wants to take his place, former state Sen. Suzanne Bonamici. She says the race is about the future, not about Wu.

Bonamici and independent groups that support her have gone after Cornilles for missing tax payments for his business and for inconsistent statements about the number of jobs his company has created.

Oregon's 1st Congressional District is the state's economic engine, encompassing downtown Portland and the fast-growing western suburbs that are home to the Silicon Forest high-tech hub and the global headquarters for athletic-wear giants Nike Inc. and Columbia Sportswear Company. It stretches across agricultural communities to the Pacific coast. Democrats have represented the district since 1975, and its voters overwhelmingly supported President Barack Obama.

But Democrats do not want to see a repeat of what happened last year in a heavily Democratic New York district, when a Republican won a special election after Rep. Anthony Weiner acknowledged sending provocative text messages and resigned.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has spent $1.3 million to boost Bonamici. Political committees for a union, abortion-rights groups and a super PAC allied with Democrats have also chipped in with their own mail or television ads.

Democrats insist they're not scared. They've likened their investment to an insurance policy to avoid any doubts about the party's strength that would inevitably follow a loss in a liberal state like Oregon. The National Republican Congressional Committee has spent just $85,000 on the race.

Cornilles, 47, is making his second bid for the seat after losing to Wu in 2010. He's centered his pitch on his experience running a sports-marketing firm, hoping to swing an upset with a relentless focus on jobs and a run toward the center. Unemployment in the Portland area dropped to 7.8 percent in November 2011, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Bonamici, 57, is mixing traditional Democratic themes of protecting Social Security and Medicare with a pledge to tackle the national debt by getting Washington's priorities in order.

Without reliable public polling it's anyone's guess how close the race will be.

Purdue University creates 'bass' powered medical implant, knows where it hertz

We've seen all kinds of medical implants over the years, but none that had a musical preference -- until now. Researchers at Purdue University have created a pressure sensitive microelectromechanical system (MEMS) that uses sound waves as an energy source. The proof-of-concept has a vibrating cantilever that's receptive to sound -- or music -- in the 200 - 500Hz frequency spectrum, which is towards the bottom end of the audible range. The subcutaneous implant converts the low-frequency vibrations into energy, and then stores it in a capacitor. Once the cantilever stops vibrating, it sends an electrical charge to a sensor and takes a pressure reading, the result is then transmitted out via radio waves for monitoring purposes. The immediate real world applications include diagnosing and treating incontinence, but we're already wondering if that self-powering mp3 player implant could finally become a reality?

Beware of China's housing bubble

The housing bubble was a global rather than US event. The bubble outlasted the US experience in several other countries such as Australia and Canada which are experiencing some weakness. However, the one I?ve worried about is in China. Keep your eye on this one.

But the math tells a different story. The housing frenzy has driven prices so high, so fast, that a crash on the scale of the real estate collapse in Japan in the 1990s is a virtual certainty. And China?s already exaggerated official growth rate could take a pounding, all the way to the zone of the unthinkable, into the low single-digits.

Bayern Munich apologizes for hoax player signing

Associated Press Sports

updated 3:01 p.m. ET Jan. 27, 2012

MUNICH (AP) -Bayern Munich apologized Friday for tricking fans over a "spectacular new signing" after supporters reacted angrily to a publicity stunt in which the Bundesliga leaders sought to increase their fanbase on Facebook.

Bayern said on its website that it had taken fans' numerous comments into account to determine that many were "very angry" with the club.

"We're sorry. But it wasn't our intention to disappoint you with the new FC Bayern app," Bayern said. "Rather, we wanted to put the focus on you with this action, to show how important each fan is for Bayern Munich."

Fans had been directed to Facebook to watch the announcement of a new striker Thursday, and were made to "like" Bayern's page in order to view the proceedings.

Instead of learning the identity of striker Mario Gomez's backup, fans were then presented with an app called "The New FCB Star."

"Dear fans, you probably already noticed that we did not sign a new player. This app is for our fans to show the importance of you for our club," the club had said. "Each Bayern fan is the 'spectacular new signing,' our 12th man!"

Thousands of fans reacted negatively, leaving uncomplimentary comments on the club's Facebook page - even though Bayern described the whole thing as "a bit of fun for our fans."

Bayern's own goal was compounded when Munich's TZ newspaper reported that the club had warned its players about publishing photos or sharing information on social networks like Facebook and Twitter, with an outright ban coming into effect within 90 minutes of a game.

The warning came after Bayern defender Breno complained on Twitter of being forced to play in the reserve team, and midfielder Anatoliy Tymoshchuk posted footage of Uli Hoeness' 60th birthday party on YouTube and a picture of the Bayern dressing room before a game.

"The players know that they need to cut it down," Bayern coach Jupp Heynckes told Bild on Thursday - the day of Bayern's "spectacular new signing."

"It's not on that you take photos or allow photos be taken before a game - like Tymoshchuk - and put them on the internet. It's tomfoolery, it's unprofessional."

Heynckes said Friday that the timing and manner of Bayern's publicity stunt "weren't quite so fortunate," especially after the 3-1 loss at Borussia Moenchengladbach last weekend.

"If we had won 4-0 in Moenchengladbach and it had been presented in a different manner, then it would have been somewhat more successful," Heynckes said.

Video: Pardoned Mississippi killer missing

>>> missing in mississippi. police are offering a reward to help track down a convicted murderer who was pardoned by haley barbour . he was one of four convicted killers who worked at the governor's mansion and later pardoned during barbour's last days in office. authorities say they do not where osment is. state officials say files on those four men are either missing or don't exist. it's unclear why the documents are missing. i'm joined by mississippi attorney general jim hood . thank you for your time.

>> thank you. good afternoon.

>> let's talk about this guy, the convicted murderer. once he's pardoned, was he beheld to report back to court ? why is he considered missing?

>> he has a document that says he's a free man. i'm trying to convict a man hunt with one arm tied behind my back. a court has ordered him to serve back. we have to serve him with the documents. we can't put out a criminal apb for it to try to do a criminal arrest on him. we have to serve him with documents. that's part of the problem. when they turn one a loose after they have been pardoned, they don't have to leave a forwarding address.

>> you refer to him as a danger to the community but he wasn't obligated to give a forwarding address. is this way to keep the story in the immediate yea and keep media. there was nothing that required him to stay in contact with you or your office.

>> that's correct. what makes him a danger is knowing once we serve him, he's likely to come to court . he pardon won't be held invalid and he will likely go back to prison. they don't have much to loose. we are closing in. media have assisted us. hopefully we'll be able to serve him. he will be subject to have to come to court . i can't issue -- he's not an escapee so i can't issue an warrant.

>> if you are able to serve him, get him back in court , he still leaves the courtroom and still a convicted murderer, a free man.

>> the court will put restrictions on his travel and so forth. we have a hearing set for february 3rd . very quickly, the court will decide whether or not his pardon as well as the other four who were released. we have five that were pardoned and they are presently being held by the didn't of corrections. they are not being released. what we found out of 203 pardon, it appears that 170 are invalid because he does not follow what is required requiring 30 days publication.

>> will the former governor be required -- i know he's briefly commented, he's released a statement. a lot of people were wondering what was he thinking? will he will required to show up at court ?

>> not at this point. he owes an explanation to people as to why we would turn this many medipeople out. they record will be clensed if the court does not go back.

>> all right jim hood , thank

Captain America 2 Filming in 2012?

captain america movie sequel production start date

With The Avengers?owning?2012 all to itself ? along with Iron Man 3 and Thor 2 having already staked out the separate halves of 2013 as their own ? it?s been assumed that Captain America 2 is the most likely candidate to snag one of the two 2014 release dates that Marvel Studios has already claimed.

According to Captain America costar Neal McDonough, who plays the bowler-capped Dum Dum Dugan, filming on the (currently) director-less sequel is slated to begin before 2012 comes to a close. Such a move would both pave the way for Cap?s next solo venture to reach theaters by 2014 ? and, set the stage for production to begin on one of the many other?single Marvel character-centric vehicles being developed right now.

IMDB Television was chatting recently with McDonough about his new role as a sophisticated crime boss on FX?s Justified, when the actor casually revealed the following tidbit about the next Captain America flick:

?They?re planning [to go into production] for the end of this year, because Marvel does one film at a time. So they?re going to do ?Thor 2??and as soon as ?Thor??has wrapped, they?ll do ?Cap 2?. Hopefully right after that, we?ll jump into ?Nick Fury??because that?s the one I?m looking forward to more than anything.?

While both a Nick Fury solo movie and S.H.I.E.L.D. flick are definite possible future Marvel endeavors, it seems more likely that only one or the other will eventually be made. More so, with other big titles like The Avengers 2?on the horizon, there?s always the chance that studio heads will ultimately hold off all the longer on producing a solo vehicle for Samuel L. Jackson?s one-eyed alter ego.

Moving on ? it sounds as though the Captain America sequel is (unofficially) set to arrive in 2014 now, even if production doesn?t begin quite as early as McDonough expects. That means the second Cap-centered movie should also be the ?big? Marvel release of that year ? with the other Marvel-marked release date being reserved for the live-action debut of a character like Ant-Man or Doctor Strange, whose respective solo vehicles are both reported to be making solid progress down the production pipeline.

Thor and Captain America in The Avengers

Thor and Captain America team up in 'The Avengers'

Now that Avengers writer/director Joss Whedon has confirmed that the film unfolds from Cap?s perspective, it sounds as though the first Captain America?movie, The Avengers, and Captain America 2 will essentially form a direct trilogy, in terms of Steve Rogers? (Chris Evans) personal character arc.

Screenwriting duo Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely?s previous comments about how Cap?s second solo film will largely take place in a contemporary setting make all the more sense, in that regard ? seeing how CA 2 looks to now be even more of a direct continuation of the Avengers? narrative than either the second Thor or third Iron Man?installment.

All of the aforementioned upcoming Marvel titles are going to (at the least, partially) be affected by the success of The Avengers ? which is poised to test the comic book studio?s plans, when it comes to the feasibility of creating a shared movie universe akin to that featured in Marvel?s graphic novel literature. Best to hold off and see just how everything goes down in Whedon?s superhero ensemble flick, before speculating too?much about the films that take place thereafter.

-

The Avengers hits theaters in the U.S. on May 4th, 2012.

Don?t be surprised if Marvel officially confirms Captain America 2 for a May 16th, 2014 theatrical release date ? in the near future, that is.

Google adding Public Alerts to Maps, keeps you in the loop in times of worry

Google adding Public Alerts to Maps, keeps you in the loop in times of worry
You can't deny that Google often hands out marvelous tools for the masses to utilize (yes, some can be a miss), and today the King of Search is launching a fresh virtual apparatus as part of its Crisis Response project. Dubbed "Public Alerts," the feature is accessible from within Google Maps, keeping you in the loop during times of high alert. Your search query will trigger things like weather relevant to your area, public safety and earthquake alerts -- all of which are provided by the NOAA, the National Weather Service and the US Geological Survey. The Crisis Response squad says its goal is "to surface emergency information through the online tools you use everyday," which is a great idea, but we honestly hope that you don't have to use it very often. Those of you stateside can start using Public Alerts now -- as for the rest, let's hope that the search giant brings its alerts to a map near you sooner rather than later...

iCloud climbs to 85 million users

It seems like only yesterday Apple unveiled iCloud to the world at WWDC, just a puff of vapor. Now look at it. The company has just confirmed the service has swelled to 85 million users as part of its Q1 2012 earnings call. That's more than twice as many iPhones as it sold in the same period, but of course it's worth noting that iCloud is, of course, free, so there's no penalty in people sticking their head in and seeing how things feel.

China reports second bird flu death in a month (AP)

BEIJING ? China on Sunday reported its second bird flu fatality in a month following deaths last week in Vietnam and Cambodia.

The patient died Sunday in Guizhou province in the southwest after being hospitalized on Jan. 6, the health ministry said in a brief statement. It said the flu was highly pathogenic but gave no indication whether it was confirmed to be the H5N1 strain.

Mainland officials told Hong Kong authorities the patient was a 39-year-old man who reported having no contact with poultry, government-run Hong Kong broadcaster RTHK said. It gave no other details of his identity.

The health ministry statement said 71 people who had contact with the patient showed no unusual symptoms.

China suffered its first bird flu fatality in 18 months when a bus driver in Shenzhen, a city that borders Hong Kong, died Dec. 31.

Last week, Vietnam reported its first bird flu fatality in nearly two years ? an 18-year-old man who worked on a duck farm.

In Cambodia, a 2-year-old boy died last week after reportedly having contact with sick poultry in his village, according to the World Health Organization.

Indonesia also has reported one bird flu death this year.

WHO says that as of Friday, there have been 343 human deaths from 582 confirmed bird flu cases worldwide since 2003. Some 27 of those deaths were in China and 60 in Vietnam.

Study finds new genetic loci associated with menopause onset

Monday, January 23, 2012

An international team of researchers from the Boston University Schools of Public Health and Medicine and other institutions has uncovered 13 genetic loci, linked to immune function and DNA repair, that are factors in the age of onset of menopause.

Menopause -- the cessation of reproductive function of the ovaries -- is a major hormonal change that affects most women when they are in their early 50s. Most prior studies of the age of onset of menopause have focused on genes from the estrogen-production pathway or vascular components.

In the new study, published online Jan. 22 in Nature Genetics, a research team led by Kathryn Lunetta, professor of biostatistics at the BU School of Public Health, and Joanne Murabito, associate professor of medicine at the BU School of Medicine, identified 13 novel loci associated with menopause onset, while confirming four previously established loci. Most of the 17 loci are associated with genes related to DNA damage repair or auto-immune disease; others are linked to hormonal regulation.

"Our findings demonstrate the role of genes which regulate DNA repair and immune function, as well as genes affecting neuroendocrine pathways of ovarian function in regulating age at menopause, indicating the process of aging is involved in both somatic and germ line aging" the authors said.

Lunetta said the new findings "bring us closer to understanding the genetic basis for the timing of menopause. They may also provide clues to the genetic basis of early onset or premature menopause and reduced fertility.

"We hope that as a better understanding of the biologic effects of these menopause-related variants are uncovered, we will gain new insights into the connections between menopause and cardiovascular disease, breast cancer, osteoporosis, and other traits related to aging, and that this will provide avenues for prevention and treatment of these conditions," she said.

According to Murabito, director of the research clinic at the Framingham Heart Study, "It will be important to determine if a genetic variant that directly influences age at menopause also increases risk for later life health conditions, such as breast cancer."

The authors said they expected further research to identify "a substantial number of additional common variants" that impact age of menopause, and that many of them will be located in genes identified in their study. The study examined more than 50,000 women of European descent who had experienced menopause between the ages of 40 and 60.

The research team noted that a large-scale study of menopause onset in African-American women is underway, which will help to determine whether the genetic variations that affect menopause onset in African-American women are similar or substantially different for women of primarily European descent.

Besides Lunetta and Murabito, senior authors on the study include: Anna Murray, a senior lecturer in genetics at the Peninsula Medical School in Exeter (UK); and Jenny A. Visser, a scientist at Erasmus Medical Center in Rotterdam (Netherlands).

Land and marine iguanas and giant tortoises living close to human settlements or tourist sites in the Gal?pagos Islands were more likely to harbor antibiotic-resistant bacteria than those living in more remote or protected sites on the islands, researchers report in a new study.

Feces collected at several different sites from free-living reptiles harbored Escherichia coli bacteria that were resistant to ampicillin, doxycycline, tetracycline and trimethoprin/sulfamethoxazole. Another bacterial species collected from the feces, Salmonella enterica, was found to be only mildly resistant or not resistant at all to the same antibiotics, most likely because of the differing ecology of these two bacterial species in the gut, researchers said.

The study results are reported in the Journal of Wildlife Diseases.

This is not the first study to find that wild animals living near humans or affected by tourism can obtain antibiotic-resistant bacteria from that exposure, said University of Illinois animal sciences professor Roderick Mackie, who led the study. But it does offer researchers and wildlife managers a way to determine which vulnerable animal species are most at risk of exposure to human pathogens.

"Oceanic island systems such as the Gal?pagos archipelago are ideal for studying patterns and processes of ecology and evolution, such as antibiotic resistance," Mackie said. "Although the data are interesting, we don't have enough data to identify the likely source of antibiotic exposure and origin of the resistance genes, or to draw conclusions about transmission direction."

Also, it is not yet clear "to what extent this potential exposure translates to ongoing exchange of bacterial strains or bacterial traits," the researchers wrote. Further studies are needed "to understand better how human associations influence disease risk in endemic Gal?pagos wildlife."

The work was carried out by Emily Wheeler as part of her doctoral studies in Mackie's lab, and was supported by a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency STAR Fellowship and a student research grant from the Conservation Medicine Center of Chicago. Postdoctoral researcher Pei-Ying Hong and field biologist Lenin Cruz Bedon, of Isla Santa Cruz, Gal?pagos, are co-authors on the study.

Jim Miller back on track with choke victory over Melvin Guillard at UFC on FX 1

Fundamentals took out flash Friday night.

Melvin Guillard looked spectacular at times, but after three minutes of wowing the crowd, he was caught in another choke and had to tap to the very steady and tough Jim Miller.

Guillard, a dynamic striker, was lighting up Miller when he made a big mistake. He left his feet to attempt his fourth flying knee of the fight. Miller was waiting and dumped him to the ground where he eventually locked on a rear-naked choke to finish things at the 2:02 mark of the first round in the main event of the UFC on FX 1 card in Nashville.

"It always something I've been able to do and then from there it was just about securing the position," Miller told UFC play-by-play voice Jon Anik. "I'm pretty confident that I am the most dangerous lightweight in the world. I'm willing to make you guys believe that."

The dominant victory puts Miller (21-3, 10-2 UFC) right back in the middle of the UFC lightweight title hunt. A second straight loss Friday and he would've tumbled down the rankings. Miller lost badly his last time out against Ben Henderson. He revealed this week that he was battling some medical issues entering that fight. That's all in the past now.

Guillard's regarded as one of the most explosive fighters in any weight division. He came out on fire.

Just 35 seconds into the fight, Guillard dropped Miller. As Miller scrambled, he got drilled by six more hard punches. Miller clutched and grabbed to avoid more damage. He ate another big knee as the fighters separated. With 2:48 left, Miller absorbed another huge Guillard punch, right down the pipe, but he never wilted. When Guillard tried a fourth flying knee, Miller was ready.

The 28-year-old from New Jersey dumped Guillard on his back and 10 seconds later scored a momentary mount. Guillard did himself in when he flipped to his back in an attempt to free himself. Miller's jiu-jitsu is too nasty to attempt such an elementary escape. Miller jumped on Guillard's back as he tried to stand up and instantly sunk in his hooks. Guillard's suffered seven previous choke losses during his career. He wasn't getting out of this one.

A relieved Miller gave Guillard (29-10-2, 10-6 UFC) much credit following the fight.

"I don't get knocked down often and he knocked me down. He hits hard man. There are a lot of guys, I think in this weight class and the one above, that don't want to fight that kid," said Miller.

Henderson faces Edgar for the UFC lightweight title next month in Japan. Beyond that fight, it's anyone guess who'll get the next shot against the winner. Miller certainly put himself in the conversation.
