Rebecca Adlington defended her failure to retain her double Olympic titles by insisting British swimmers have a tougher time winning medals than their successful track cycling team-mates.
Britain's cyclists have dominated the Velodrome with three golds in two days, while Adlington finished third on Thursday in the 800m freestyle final as both her 400m and 800m freestyle golds from Beijing have turned to bronze.
In contrast on Friday, Britain claimed two cycling gold medals as Victoria Pendleton won the women's keirin gold in her third and final Olympics, half an hour after the pursuit quartet claimed gold of their own.
Chris Hoy claimed a British record-equalling fifth gold as part of the team sprint team on Thursday.
Following Bradley Wiggins' Tour de France triumph and time trial gold medal at the London Olympics, British cycling is going from strength to strength.
After Adlington's double bronze haul, Scotland's Michael Jamieson is the only other Briton to win a medal in the London pool after his silver in the men's 200m breaststroke.
But Adlington said a lack of understanding of swimming has made it hard for her within the British team.
"Swimming is such a difficult sport. I love Chris Hoy a lot, but cycling is a hell of a different sport to swimming in which to try and medal," insisted the 23-year-old.
"Cycling is tough, but this is harder to medal. (The cyclists) would be disappointed to get silver whereas with us, just to make the final is a lot more difficult.
"It's hard in the British camp. No one else understands what I am going through, but they have been so brilliant.
"I have such a great team behind me, a great coach and family too. The team are great, they support me no matter what. They are the best people to pick me up as well."
